Spay Day at Villa Unida, April 18th 2010

Spay/Panamá and Los Angeles de los Animales realized another successful spay/neutering day, as part of the preventive medicine campaign organized by the Health Ministry.

A female dog and her litter – neutering/spaying can be done when the animals are
6 weeks old.

Waiting for a better life!

Left: Registration, weighing and anesthesia.
Middle: vomiting if the dog ate the same day.
Right: preparation for the operation (shave, desinfect, pain killer and antibiotics).

Already dreaming of better days...

103 dogs and 13 cats were sterilized at this event.
615 animals have been sterilized with the coordination of the Regional Office of San Miguelito.

Left: The visitor coming to check us out was trapped, and received the same excellent care. He will have a healthier life and will not reproduce.  Right: also the instruments need sterilization!

All the dogs received a tattoo of an S, and the cats got a little nip.

All animals were dewormed and injected with vitamins. They also had their ears cleaned, and were sprayed for fleas and ticks. All dogs over 3 months of age received a vaccine against rabies.
Look at the poor state of the white dog on the right.

Time to wake up again!

Left: An ingenious way of transporting the animals who aren’t allowed to walk yet.
Right: The school in Villa Unida with the different stations.

The Spay/Panama team was represented through veterinarians: Dr. Augusto Barragán, Dra. Letty de Guajardo, Dra. Gloria Fonseca, Dra. Raquel Fuster and the following assistants: Los Angeles de los Animales, Ernesto (Universidad de Panama), Gustavo, Alberto, Rebeca, Daniel, Sol, Marlen, Sylvie, and Pat.

A total of $57.25 was collected or the equivalent of 49 cents per animal. Help us to put a stop to the large number of animals that roam homeless, hungry and sick by clicking here
