MONTE OSCURO, CACERES OF ARRAIJAN
JULY 31 - AUGUST 1,  2010

The core staff of Spay/Panama went to Monte Oscuro, Cáceres of Arraiján in the afternoon of Saturday, July 31, 2010 after operating at our facilities in Panama City.  The plan was for the rest of the team to go on Sunday morning.

Unfortunately it was a very rainy day.  However 25 cats and one dog were operated that afternoon in Arraijan.

The rain continued all night so we call the rest of team to let them know not to come.

This is Nino that was sterilized a few years back.

To our surprise, 49 animals arrived under the rain on Sunday.  A total of 46 dogs and 29 cats were operated.  Most of them were brought in by Jaime Seixas.  To date, Spay/Panama has sterilized 3,002 animals in Arraijan.

For this blitz, we had Sara and Crystal from Virginia Tech and Gabriela from UC Davis.  They came as volunteers through United Vets in Training - Helping Spay/Panama.  They worked all the stations.

Veterinarians were Dr. Gloria and Dr. Augusto.

The Spay volunteers:  Rebeca doing surgical instruments, Alberto, Ronald and Patricia did the anesthesia, pre, post, register and taxi.

At 11:00am five cadets of the International Maritime University came to help.

This is Gatita Suertuda, she passed Saturday night with us and was returned to her guardian on Sunday.

For the 75 animals sterilized, dewormed, sprayed against fleas and ticks, injected with vitamins and vaccinated against rabies, $86.64 was collected or the equivalent of $1.16 per animal.  To cover our costs, we need to collect $25 per dog and $12 per cat.

The less fortunate animals need your help so that we can go to these poor areas and do blitzes or sterilization campaigns to control the number of animals that are abandoned, sick and hungry.  Help us make a difference by clicking here to find out how you can help
